Report: Kushner mastermind behind Trump’s meeting with China

It is being reported that the State Department is not involved in the scheduling of a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Rather, presidential adviser Jared Kushner has handled the meeting’s logistics, working alongside Chinese ambassador Cui Tiankai in preparation for this week’s face-to-face discussions.

The president’s son-in-law has attempted to smooth over the relationship between Trump and Xi, as Trump is highly critical of China’s dealings with the United States.

Trump went as far as tweeting that the discussion with Xi will be “very difficult.”

The meeting is due to take place at Trump’s West Palm Beach, Fla. resort, and Kushner and Cui have worked end-to-end blueprinting the get-together.

Cui even sent Kushner a joint statement which is to be issued on behalf of both governments following the conclusion of the presidential pair’s Thursday dinner.

The New York Times was informed that Kushner’s preferential treatment is due to China’s respect for family ties. Kushner “reflects a Chinese comfort with dynastic links,” making him more susceptible to genuine dialogue.

Kushner also played a vital role in easing early tension between Trump and China, when the president initially phoned Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen following his electoral win. Historical protocol suggests the call intimated that the United States does not view Taiwan as part of China, and such a phone call could be labeled as an insult.

Kushner was the mastermind behind talks that calmed the fervor between the two superpowers, eventually leading to a camaraderie developed between the senior adviser and Cui. Reportedly, the upcoming meeting will feature Trump’s asking China to stand up to North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic programs agenda, with an emphasis on renegotiating the current trade imbalance between the U.S. and China.
