According to a nationwide poll, as many as 2 million non-citizen Hispanics are illegally registered to vote in the United States.
The little-noticed 2013 National Hispanic Survey provides additional ammunition for anti-voter-fraud conservatives and supports a 2014 analysis by professors at Old Dominion University who claim that non-citizens registered and voted in potentially large numbers.
The National Hispanic Survey was conducted by McLaughlin and Associates to gauge the opinions of U.S. resident Latinos on a wide range of issues.
Of the randomly selected sample of 800 Hispanics, 56 percent were non-citizens, and of those, 13 percent admitted to being registered to vote. Those respondents were presumably a mix of illegal immigrants and non-citizens who are in the U.S. legally, such as visa holders or permanent residents.
The poll did not ask respondents if they voted, yet a 1996 federal law, and other statues, makes registering as a non-citizen a felony.
President Trump has declared his intent to appoint a voter fraud task force led by Vice President Mike Pence. Their investigation will focus on inaccurate voter registration rolls, which are maintained by the states and the District of Columbia.
“It is a fact and you will not deny it, that there are massive numbers of non-citizens in this country who are registered to vote,” White House adviser Stephen Miller said on ABC’s This Week. “That is a scandal. We should stop the presses.”
“An issue of voter fraud is something we’re going to be looking at very seriously and very hard,” Mr. Miller said. “But the reality is, is that we know for a fact, you have massive numbers of non-citizens registered to vote in this country. Nobody disputes that.”
He continued, “The White House has provided enormous evidence with respect to voter fraud, with respect to people being registered in more than one state, dead people voting, non-citizens being registered to vote And as a country, we should be aghast about the fact that you have people who have no right to vote in this country, registered to vote, canceling out the franchise of lawful citizens of this country.”
During discussion about “cleaning up” registration in Trump’s pre-Super Bowl interview with Bill O’Reilly of Fox News, O’Reilly asserted that the president had not presented data to back up his claim that 3 million illegals voted.
“Forget that,” Trump said. “Forget all that. Just take a look at the registration and we’re going to do it.”
