A 23-year-old Ft. Pierce man charged with choking, then running over a woman in a lonely seaside parking lot called a friend repeatedly, saying, “I killed, Diana, bro,” according to Sheriff’s Office detectives.

Martin County homicide detectives investigating the death of Diana Ortiz, 23, arrested Oscar Gil after he crashed his truck and ran in Stuart, early Saturday morning.

The article goes on to state the following:

Detectives said the truck and Gil’s description matched video surveillance taken at the scene where a passerby discovered Ortiz’ body at Sea Turtle Beach in Jensen Beach.

According to multiple reports, surveillance video at the beach confirms the two tumbled from a picked and struggled on the beach, as the man had her in a “choke hold” for about 10 minutes.  After the woman broke free and ran, the man got back into the pickup and ran over her.

Authorities later found her purse still inside the pickup. Ortiz was the mother of a 4-year-old daughter.
