In a report from Byron York for the Washington Examiner, York suggests Support for former Vice President Joe Biden is “soft” while President Donald J. Trump’s supporters are more enthusiastic about their candidate, a situation that the Democrat’s last candidate, Hillary Clinton, faced in 2016.

York reports:

A new poll from ABC News and the Washington Post shows former Vice President Joe Biden with a 10-point lead over President Trump, 53 percent to 43 percent, among registered voters nationwide. That’s a large margin, significantly bigger than the 5.9 point lead Biden has in the RealClearPolitics average of national polls.

On the other hand, the survey has some interesting numbers about the relative strength of voter support. When respondents said they supported Trump, the pollsters followed up: Would you definitely vote for Trump, probably vote for him, or just possibly vote for him? An impressive 87 percent of his registered voter supporters said they would definitely vote for Trump, versus eight percent who said they would probably vote for him, and five percent who said they would possibly vote for him.

In other words, Trump’s support appears rock-solid. But Biden’s is not. When pollsters asked the same question of people who said they supported Biden, they found that just 74 percent of his registered voter supporters said they would definitely vote for him. Fifteen percent said they would probably vote for him, and 11 percent said they would possibly vote for him.

York goes on to note that a whopping ninety percent of the registered voters who will pick Trump said they are enthusiastic about their support for the preident, while just seventy-six percent of Biden’s supporters feel that way.

The poll found that people approve of the way Trump is managing the economy 52 to 44 percent.

Trump later tweeted:

“Trump” is leading in all swing states. Heavily biased Democrat Poll, just like 2016. Biggest “enthusiasm” lead ever!

It isn’t clear which poll he’s referring to, as many polls don’t show him with a clear advantage in swing states, however, his commet about “enthusiasm” was in reference to York’s peice and the ABC/WaPo poll, as he included Yorks tweet with his post.

York had tweeted:

“Biden support soft? In new WP poll, Biden has big lead–10 points–over Trump with registered voters nationally. But also signs of softness in Biden support. 87% of Trump supporters say they’ll definitely vote Trump. For Biden, number is 74%.”
