Thirty-three malnourished shih tzus were rescued from an overheated Manhattan apartment, police said Tuesday.

The man who owns the pooches, Ivan Paredes, was busted for torturing and neglecting his pets, authorities said.

The article goes on to state the following:

Cops were called to Paredes’ apartment on East 13th St., in the Campos Plaza Houses at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, after getting calls about a foul odor and nonstop barking.

The animals inside showed serious signs of neglect, they were malnourished and their matted fur was covered in feces, authorities said.

The ASPCA took custody of the dogs. Paredes, 57, was issued a desk appearance ticket and released.
