DES MOINES, Iowa – Five people were arrested Monday night after they refused to leave the Des Moines campaign office of presidential candidate Joe Biden.

According to the Des Moines Police Department, officers were called to the office at 2411 Grand Ave. at 7:13 p.m. because about two-dozen protesters had entered the campaign’s field office and were refusing to leave.

The article goes on to state the following:

Once officers arrived, several of the protesters did leave the premises but five people remained and were arrested[.]

“A group backing Independent Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders took over former Vice President Joe Biden’sstatewide Iowa headquarters while singing ‘This Little Light of Mine,’ a hymn that was adapted into an anthem of the civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s,” Mediaite reported. “The group posted an extensive Twitter thread about the protest, including a video of the group clapping on random beats and singing the civil rights-era anthem with their own replacement lyrics: “In Joe Biden’s office, I’m gonna let it shine…”

The arrested individuals were:

  • John Reardon, 22
  • Michael McKinley, 68
  • William Floyd, 22
  • Denise Cheeseman, 21
  • Kiran Loewenstein, 19

They face criminal trespassing and were released on scene, the report says.

Some Twitter users were displeased with the Sanders supporters’ protest.

“This is group of Bernie supporters harassing low level staff and volunteers at Joe Biden’s campaign office in Iowa. Just like the Sunrise movement, they never condemn or protest Republicans who are actually the ones responsible for what they are against. F**k them,” tweeted James Toupin.

“Five Bernie Supporting Criminal Trespassers Arrested at Joe Biden’s Des Moines Campaign Office,” tweeted Bianca DeLaRosa.
