Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to contribute to the potential success of a summit between President Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un in an interview Wednesday.

According to Russian state news agency TASS, Putin told Chinese reporters on Wednesday that his government would work to negotiate jointly with U.S. and North Korean officials, and suggested that the international community agree to help North Korea’s economic development in exchange for denuclearization.

The article goes on to state the following:

“We will be waiting for the outcome of the meeting between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and will contribute to the success of this meeting in every possible way,” Putin told reporters.

“There are numerous prospects for joint work both in the three-and four-party format; it is just necessary to move in this direction,” Putin added, according to TASS.

The Russian president also said on Wednesday that Trump had made a “brave” and “strong” decision to accept plans for the unprecedented summit with Kim Jong Un, which nearly fell apart last month.
