The “People’s Climate March” taking place Saturday, timed to correspond with President Trump’s 100th day in office, is reportedly being funded in part by billionaire activist George Soros.
According to an analysis released Friday by the Media Research Center, Soros contributed more than $36 million between 2000 and 2014 to 18 of the 55 organizations represented on the march’s steering committee.
According to their website, “The Peoples Climate Movement is a project of over 50 organizations working together to solve the climate crisis and address the growing pollution of our air and water, while also assuring the creation of good jobs in our communities. Beyond the steering committee, this project is supported by over 500 other partner organizations.”
Soros is reportedly funding approximately one-third of those organizations.
Many of the organizations leading the march, such as labor unions and social-justice groups, including the Soros-backed Color of Change, do not actually have anything to do with climate change. This was also the case with the March for Science and the Women’s March, which is indicative of an agenda other than concern for those issues, the report notes.
One of the climate-change organizations participating in the march is NextGen Climate, which was founded by top Democratic donor Tom Steyer.
Six groups identified as having received more than $1 million each from Soros include:
- Center for Community Change
- Natural Resources Defense Council
- People’s Action
- Public Citizen
- Union of Concerned Scientists
Coming on the heels of last week’s March for Science, the People’s Climate March, is scheduled to run along Pennsylvania Avenue and end by surrounding the White House so that the crowd can “drown out all of the climate-denying nonsense that has been coming out of this Administration.”
Clean air, water, land and “clean and renewable energy” are just some of the reasons that the People’s Climate March website gives in its “Why We’re Marching” section.
Listed below are their other goals, which the report points out are “not at all related to climate change, environmentalism or even conservation. But promoting increased minimum wage, unions, social justice and immigration are all goals supported and funded by Soros and other powerful left-wing donors.”
- Advance solutions to the climate crisis rooted in racial, social and economic justice…
- Immediately stop attacks on immigrants, communities of color, indigenous and tribal people and lands and workers.
- Ensure public funds and investments create good paying jobs that provide a family-sustaining wage and benefits and preserve workers’ rights, including the right to unionize.
- Fund investments in our communities, people and environment to transition to a new clean and renewable energy economy that works for all, not an economy that feeds the machinery of war.
- Protect our basic rights to a free press, protest and free speech.
Other liberal groups funding the march include the Grantham Foundation, Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Marisla Foundation, and Wallace Global Fund.
