Over the last 7 days, at least three men who received protections to live in the U.S. under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for illegal immigrants have been arrested for crimes committed against the nation they wish to call home. The latest is a 26-year-old Mexican national who was caught smuggling illegals into the country on Monday.

DACA recipients, children who entered the country illegally, are calling for Congress to pass a bill to protect them, as they seek to remain in America despite their status as illegal aliens. One of those recipients, commonly referred to as a “dreamer,” was arrested Monday by the U.S. Border Patrol in Arizona.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a Yuma Station Reconnaissance Unit spotted footprints from four people who crossed the U.S. border from Mexico, near the Colorado River. After the incident was reported to the Targeted Enforcement Unit, the so called “dreamer” and his four smuggled companions were spotted getting into a white Ford F-150 in a nearby citrus grove.

The CBP reportsAgents from both units intercepted the vehicle and performed a vehicle stop. The driver was identified as a 26-year-old male Mexican national DACA recipient from Salinas, California. The other four occupants were all determined to be Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States. The driver was arrested for human smuggling charges, and the four passengers were arrested for immigration violations. The vehicle was seized for forfeiture.

Monday’s incident marked at least three times within the past week in which a DACA recipient was implicated in human smuggling, Fox News reports. According to Border Patrol officials, two other incidents occurred last week:

  • One incident occurred last Wednesday, when Border agents were tipped off about human smuggling. They pulled a vehicle over and found a 20-year-old DACA recipient whose status had expired smuggling two Mexican nationals in the country illegally.
  • A second, separate incident, involved a 22-year-old Mexican national and DACA recipient from Riverside, who was allegedly scouting an area for smugglers in Campo, Calif.
