REPORT: Trump appointing McCain’s wife to prominent position

According to reports, President Trump has appointed Cindy McCain, wife of Sen. John McCain, to be an ambassador. On Tuesday, Trump and McCain came to an agreement on an ambassador position, although she’s been given no official title yet.  According to reports, the appointment was hard won, as McCain turned down job offers for months.

Last month, the Associated Press reported that McCain was being considered for a position as “an ambassador-at-large in Washington, focusing on a specific issue such as human trafficking.” After much negotiation, they seem to have settled on the appointment, according to a White House source who allegedly shared the information to the Daily Beast.

McCain’s appointment will be focused on anti human trafficking efforts, refugees, and humanitarian-aid issues.

Trump’s interest in recruiting Cindy McCain may be a bit surprising, considering his contentious relationship with Sen. John McCain, who continues to denigrate the president’s decisions.

Cindy McCain has become an advocate against sex trafficking in recent years, and is co-chair of the Arizona Human Trafficking Council, which works with the state to end trafficking through training, outreach and awareness activities, as well as advocating for victim services improvements.

McCain has also been involved with Arizona State University’s McCain Institute to stop human trafficking, worked with humanitarian organizations and promoted children’s health issues. She’s also a former chairwoman of humanitarian organization, HALO USA, which spotlights war-torn communities to help them clear land mines and other explosives.

According to the White House source, President Trump “aggressively courted her for this, it’s a done deal now. The president had floated several positions before, this is the one that stuck.”
