Neomi Rao, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, expressed regret on Monday about her college writings on sexual assault.

Rao, who would replace Brett Kavanaugh on the nation’s second most powerful court, came under fire during her confirmation hearing last week over op-eds she wrote as an undergraduate at Yale. In an article on date rape, Rao wrote that if a woman “drinks to the point where she can no longer choose, well, getting to that point was part of her choice.”

The article goes on to state the following:

In a letter to the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and its ranking member, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Rao wrote that she had failed to recognize at the time how her remarks could be viewed as offensive, and she described herself as a “sheltered” college student.
