Every luxury hotel in the city of Hamburg is reportedly fully booked this week, due to the G20 Summit, where leaders and delegates from around the world are pouring in.
Many nations have booked entire hotels for themselves and their staffs – but word is circulating that President Trump – who owns hotels around the world – did not obtain hotel reservations in time for the summit.
Unfortunately, Trump does not own any hotels in Hamburg. Whether the hotel situation was an oversight or intentional is yet unknown, but Buzzfeed put out a report Thursday that the Trump administration could not find a hotel available.
After the media raised the alarm that all hotels are full, it was confirmed by the Associated Press that President Trump will be staying at the Senate guest house – described as “more than fitting,” with a beautiful view, and located near the Russian general consulate and the Hamburg Islamic center.
The Senate guest house where President Trump will be staying is guarded by police officers.
Trump’s staff are being hosted by the US Consulate General in Hamburg.
An estimated 9,000 hotel reservations are needed for the G20 Summit, to host all the world leaders, their staff and security personnel, The Hill reported.
A local news outlet, the Hamburger Abendblatt, reportedly first put out the story that the US government tried to book Trump at the Four Seasons hotel, but it was already reserved by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and his staff.
The Independent reported that this isn’t the first time a visiting official from the U.S. had trouble getting a hotel in Germany. When Secretary of State Rex Tillerson went to Germany earlier this year, he had to stay several miles away from the area where other leaders were staying.
