Former President Donald Trump said he would campaign against Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and blasted her as a “disloyal and very bad Senator” in a statement this weekend.
“I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski,” Trump said in a statement. “She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be – in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.”
The article goes on to state the following:
“Her vote to advance radical left Democrat Deb Haaland for Secretary of the Interior is yet another example of Murkowski not standing up for Alaska,” he continued.
This statement from Trump doesn’t come as a surprise since last June Murkowski said to reporters that she was “struggling” to support Trump’s reelection. Murkowski said this in regards to how Trump handled the protests around the death of George Floyd.
In February, during the Senate impeachment trial, Murkowski voted to convict Trump on the charge of inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. She was one of seven Republicans who voted to convict.
The issue with Trump’s statement is this could put him in the crosshairs of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. Last week, Sen. Rick Scott said in an interview that he would support any GOP incumbent against other challengers, even if that means he will have to go against who Trump is supporting.
Sen. Jeff Flake tweeted Sunday, “Alaska, and the country, is fortunate to have @lisamurkowski in the Senate. Alaska voters know that, and she’ll be just fine.”
