President Trump, according to his financial disclosure report, earned $40 million last year from his company’s hotel in Washington, D.C., USA Today reports.

Trump earned $40.7 million in the 2017 calendar year. He earned $19.6 million between January 2016 to mid-April 2017, according to a previous financial report.

The article goes on to state the following:

More than $350,000 in campaign funds contributed to the hotel’s revenue, 60 percent coming from events hosted by the Republican National Committee, according to an analysis by USA Today.

The Trump International Hotel in D.C. opened in October 2016 less than one mile from the White House and has become a legal headache for the president as a number of critics have said earnings from the hotel violate the emoluments cause in the Constitution.

The clause bars the president from accepting gifts or payment from foreign governments without Congressional approval.
