A new report says “right wing extremists” carry out more terrorist attacks than Islamist extremists. According to The Investigative Fund and Reveal, “Trump’s fixation on demonizing Islam hides true homegrown U.S. terror threats.”
The Investigative Fund and Reveal claim that over the past nine years “far-right plots and attacks outnumber Islamist incidents by almost 2 to 1.”
According to the report, police were able to stop only 35 percent of the 115 “right-wing” incidents. In contrast, there were 63 Islamist terrorism cases, and police prevented 76 percent of their planned attacks.
Additionally, between 2008 to 2016, 30 percent of right-wing attacks resulted in fatalities, and only 13 percent of Islamist attacks were fatal. Yet the attacks by Islamist extremists killed more people overall, taking 90 lives while the right-wing attacks took 79.
The Investigative Fund feels that their report “quantifies just how irrational Trump and the GOP’s fixation on radical Islamic terrorism is.”
According to the report, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn and Steve Bannon are part of the problem:
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn — who, before his short-lived tenure as national security adviser, had a record of making such incendiary remarks as, “Fear of Muslims is rational,” and, “I don’t see Islam as a religion” — and chief strategist Stephen Bannon, who had called Islam a “religion of submission” and stoked fears that radical Muslims seek to create an “Islamic States of America.”
The report says federal authorities disproportionately focus on potential Islamist extremists, claiming that their data “reveals a serious imbalance in the way the United States confronts terrorism institutionally.”
There was no reference to attacks pulled off by left-wing extremists like the Bernie Sanders volunteer who shot up a baseball field filled with Republican lawmakers last week. “Amazing how the Left decides to only look over their right shoulder when collecting date,” said DML when reacting to the report.
