Singer Rihanna’s cousin reportedly died of multiple gunshot wounds on Tuesday. The young man, 21-year-old Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, was shot in Barbados.
According to reports, at approximately 7 p.m., Alleyne was walking near his home when he was approached by a man, who then allegedly shot him multiple times before leaving the scene, according to Sky News. Alleyne was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Barbados police have launched an investigation into the shooting death and are seeking anyone with information about the murder.
Upon hearing the news, Rihanna took to social media to pay tribute to her cousin, and to shine a light on gun violence.
In photos posted to Instagram, Rihanna is pictured with Alleyne. The singer called for an end to gun violence in her message, which read: “RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! Never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man!”
Rihanna ended the post with “#endgunviolence.”
A second Instagram post included a picture of Alleyne and read: “‘It’s nice to wake up’ Be grateful for life man. #RIPTavon.”
