The Old Post Office in Washington D.C. that President-elect Donald Trump spent $200 million on to turn into a Trump International Hotel, is set to hold this year’s Republican National Committee Christmas party.
Two GOP sources told the Huffington Post the event will be “more exclusive and celebratory this year” after the Republican Party’s major victory’s this November.
According to Fortune, Trump’s hotel has come under scrutiny by government ethics experts who worry that foreign governments, special interest groups and others will book rooms and events there to gain favor with the President-elect.
“Why wouldn’t I stay at his hotel blocks from the White House, so I can tell the new president, ‘I love your new hotel!’ Isn’t it rude to come to his city and say, ‘I am staying at your competitor?’ ” one Asian diplomat told The Washington Post.
Trump has already told the public he will be stepping down from his company to avoid any conflicts of interest while serving as the President of the United States, and will be announcing next week how his businesses will be handled while in office.
