On Monday, a security robot fell into a water fountain outside an office complex in Washington D.C. An informal memorial took place on Tuesday in honor of the machine’s brief service. Apparently, the robot’s name was “Steve.”

Steve was a roving robot that kept an eye on the area’s business and retail complex. While on patrol Monday, the robot fell down a set of stairs and into the ankle-deep waters of a fountain. It was eventually recovered, and some investigators are unsure if the robot’s descent into the fountain was an accident… or intentional.

The memorial featured a photo of a lit candle with the words “Never Forgotten,” a box of tissues, photos of people posing with the robot, several letters, a set of batteries and what appeared to be a cassette tape.

One of the letters read, “In Loving Memory of our security robot… but more importantly our friend.”
