Rudy Giuliani took a tumble this past weekend while on vacation in Long Island.

The former New York City mayor and Trump campaigner told Page Six that he fell during a barbecue he was hosting with some friends when his right leg gave way. He’s apparently had issues with the leg since he played catcher on his schools’ baseball teams and previously had surgery on his right quadriceps tendon.

“I was a catcher from a very young age, and I have suffered with ‘catcher’s knee’ for years, and the doctors said it would deteriorate,” Giuliani said.

Giuliani’s wife, Judith, is a nurse and wouldn’t let him get up for fear he would further aggravate the injured leg.

“Then my knee gave way when I was walking on Sunday . . . I tried to get up but [my wife] Judith ordered me not to move. If it hadn’t been for her, the injury would have been a lot worse. I now call her ‘Nurse Nancy.’ I swear to God, it was my first day of vacation and we’d planned to play a lot of golf. I don’t think I will be playing golf for a few weeks. But I am already up and limping around. I’m a tough guy, so this isn’t going to stop me.”

Some of the guests at the barbecue included Somer and Jonathan Farkas and Joanne and Roberto de Guardiola. Judith told Page Six the guests simply wanted to pick Giuliani back up.

“It is a good thing that I am a trained nurse because when he fell, I saw his leg had fallen in an unnatural way. Our guests wanted to pick him up — he’s a tough guy and he wanted to get up — and I said he should not move. It was an instant red flag. When I looked at the limb, I knew if he got up, it would just do more damage,” she said.

Giuliani was rushed into immediate surgery and has since been recovering.

“Rudy had to have surgery right away . . . He will be in the hospital for a few more days, but he’s in great spirits. He keeps calling me ‘Nurse Nancy.’ He is the eternal optimist. He may have to use crutches for a while,” Judith said.

Giuliani was highly active during the Trump campaign and many speculated he would be tapped for an administrative role. His name has been in the headlines as recently as Trump’s beef with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who some thought Giuliani was being vetted to replace. Judith said the injury hasn’t kept him from continuing to work hard.

“Of course, he’s already working from his hospital bed. He’s got the computers going, two phones, a couple of iPads and a Kindle. He’s not by any means down for the count.”

Trump said Giuliani was a “talented and patriotic American” when he declined to give him a position back in December.

“Rudy Giuliani is an extraordinarily talented and patriotic American. I will always be appreciative of his 24/7 dedication to our campaign after I won the primaries and for his extremely wise counsel,” Trump said in the statement. “He is and continues to be a close personal friend, and as appropriate, I will call upon him for advice and can see an important place for him in the administration at a later date.”
