With no intentions to pull their support for Syrian’s leader Bashar Assad, Russia’s top diplomat, Sergei Lavrov, called recent U.S. strikes against a Syrian airbase “an unlawful attack against Syria.”
On Wednesday, Lavrov told Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, “Our policy is consistent and it’s formulated exclusively on the basis of international law and not under the impact of current opportunistic motives of false choice: ‘You are with us or against us.’”
Lavrov noted, “We consider it of the utmost importance to prevent the risks of replay of similar action in the future.”
On Tuesday, Trump called the Syrian leader an “evil person” and “an animal” as the White House released an intelligence assessment saying it is “confident” that Assad’s military used sarin gas to attack his own people last week.
