Chilly US-Russia relations call for a chilly treat.
As evidence of strained relations between Russia and the Obama administration, a Russian company saw their opportunity and is capitalizing on the situation.
They’ve introduced a new ice cream treat, called “Obamka”. On the package is a little smiling African boy with an earring in one year and hold a huge ice cream dessert treat.
Over the past two years, Russian media has often mocked and berated the President, in terms that officials in the US call racist and insulting. The ice cream company said it was only meant to be a cheerful character, claiming the boy in the picture was inspired by a Soviet film.
The Obama administration isn’t pleased about it. An official told Reuters: “While I haven’t seen this particular product for sale, we are disappointed by the media-driven anti-Americanism that has become so prevalent in Russia over the past few years, particularly when it takes on a discriminatory or racist bent,” the official said.
A café in Serbia also has toilet paper in its restroom with Obama’s picture printed on it.
