A Russian TV anchor was found dead, having been possibly struck with an axe. Her death was reportedly witnessed by her young son, and her husband has recently been arrested in connection with the slaying.

Zhanna Veber, 29, was found dead at a property in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia, which borders both Urkaine and Georgia, according to the Independent. Citing local media reports, the news outlet indicates Veber was killed in a location in which her nine-year-old son, Dmitry, may have witnessed her death.

Police have not released many details of her murder, however various reports indicate her death was of a brutal nature, as the murder weapon may have been an axe. Other reports have apparently listed the murder weapon as an air gun. According to the New York Post, Leontikov shot Veber.

Although the method of her death is unclear, Veber’s estranged husband is suspected of carrying out the murder.  According to reports, Veber had been separated from Anatoly Leontikov, 36, for a period of around two years.

The Post reports that the couple had been arguing over the custody of Dimitry, as Veber was reportedly attempting to limit Leontikov’s access to him. They cite “an unnamed friend” as alleging that Leontikov had “broken a window” to get into the house, where he shot Veber and fled with Dimitry, Local media reported that Veber split from Leontikov two years ago but the pair were not officially divorced.

Veneer worked as a presenter at Laba TV, a news channel. The station posted a tribute video (see below) on its website after her murder, in which they describe her as a “talented journalist”.

Viewers responded with tributes of their own,to pay respects to the tragically killed mother and anchor.

“Such a tragedy for the family, loved ones, friends and colleagues. It’s hard to believe. We mourn together with you. Eternal memory,” wrote one such viewer, who identified himself as “Sergei,” according to the Independent.
