Following an energized campaign, Bernie Sanders’ followers don’t appear to be done fighting just yet.
According to a report published Tuesday by Wired Magazine, the “Justice Democrats” are gathering efforts to unseat the Republican Senate majority and push for progressive policies, including paid maternity leave, free education, and a cease-fire on the war on drugs.
“The ultimate goal is to take over Congress,” said Cenk Uygur, a co-founder of the Justice Democrats.
Uygur says the goal is to find and help push far-left progressives who will not only run for office but who can get liberals excited. “The first thing the Democrats will do is beseech us to not primary people, they’ll offer some concessions, and our answer will still range from ‘no’ to ‘hell no!’” In other words, they are looking for far-left radicals.
The Justice Democrats, much like the Republican “Young Guns” program that targeted Sen. Ted Cruz, hope to highlight up-and-coming Democrat talent. With the backing of The Young Turks, a YouTube news channel with over three billion views, the Justice Democrats believe such a movement would re-inspire downtrodden Democrat voters, once again.
“We’ll use the digital platform to find candidates that have the best chance of success,” Uygur said. “Our followers will naturally get excited by some of them, and that gives you some strong evidence of where you’re more likely to be productive.”
