Political activist and  former governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin filed a lawsuit against the New York Times Tuesday over an editorial that claimed she was linked to the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).

According to her attorneys, the NY Times defamed Palin in an editorial that ran on June 14, 2017.  The article ran just hours after Rep. Steve Scalise (R -LA) was shot by a former volunteer for Bernie Sanders during a baseball practice in Alexandria, Va.

The NY Times editorial which was written by the paper’s editorial board and titled “America’s Lethal Politics,” initially tied Palin to the shooting that killed six people and wounded 13 others in 2011 in Tucson, AZ.  The following day, the NY Times realized it made a major mistake and tried covering over it by publishing a correction that stated there were no ties between Palin and the AZ shootings.

Palin is seeking damages in an amount to be determined by a jury.
