Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) had emergency surgery and is now in critical condition after suffering a gunshot wound when a shooter unloaded on the field during a GOP congressional baseball practice in Virginia Wednesday.
Scalise was airlifted from the baseball field and rushed into surgery at Medstar Washington Hospital Center shortly after taking a bullet to the hip. The congressmen’s staff said he was in “good spirits” and was able to speak to his wife before entering the operating room.
The facility released a statement on Twitter following the procedure.
Rep. Scalise was critically injured and remains in critical condition. The other patient is in good condition.
