Wearing a burka in order to fool the parents of schoolboy Azan Majid Janjua, a Pakistani man kidnapped the child from his mosque in Abu Dhabi last week, then raped and killed him.
According to Major General Maktoum Al Sharifi, the accused killer told police that he “cross-dressed as a woman because he knew that the boy would not go with a man without permission from his parents.”
The boy was attending afternoon prayers and Quran recitation during Ramadan before he was snatched from the mosque and raped by the man who later strangled him with rope, according to Gulf News.
On May 31, Azan’s half-naked body was found by air-conditioning technicians on the rooftop of the building where he lived. His Quran was laying next to him.
Azan’s father, Dr Majid Janjua, 38, said, “He was fasting and he went to the mosque for Asr prayers and Quran recitation and then went missing. I was shocked to know that AC technicians, who went to our building’s rooftop to check a malfunctioning chiller, found his body there around 10 a.m.”
Arrested less than 48 hours after Azan was found dead, the suspected killer was identified as being Pakistani immigrant to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Reportedly known to the family of the victim, he confessed to the crime even as forensics found damning evidence against him.
