“Lots of people,” was the vague answer Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer gave when asked which Democratic candidate could beat President Trump in 2020.

MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt asked him for a single name of a person who could beat Trump.  “I’m not gonna pick a name,” Schumer responded.

Hunt continued to push for an answer, asking who the New York Senator thinks the leader of the Democratic party is.

“We have a bunch of leaders,” Schumer replied. “You know, I certainly am the leader of the Senate, and I try to represent the Democratic Party, but we have a lot of good voices.”

Although he would not name a fitting rival for the sitting president, he was optimistic about the 2018 senate races.

“It’s much too premature to handicap 2020, but I’ll tell you this. If the president continues in the rest of his first two years as he did in his first 100 days, there’s even a chance we could take back the Senate,” Schumer surmised.

The comments about who could beat Trump come toward the end of the interview. Schumer and Hunt spend the beginning dissecting President Trumps policies and positions, with Schumer touting the advice he’s given the president.
