Security for Trump Tower Building Could Cost Millions

The Secret Service are negotiating with the Trump Organization to set up a 24/7 command post in Trump Towers to protect Melania and Barron Trump through the end of the current school year.

The SSA and NYPD are looking at two connecting floors to house at least 250 agents and cops to protect the President, First Lady and First Son, located 40 floors below the Trump penthouse.

This situation is unique, as taxpayers will be paying Trump’s own corporation to lease the two floors. It’s not known if Trump will make a special deal with the SSA; however at the current rates, the lease could cost the tax payers $3 million per year.  The Trump Organization or the SSA have commented about the details of the negotiations.

The Secret Service team will also need accomodations when Trump and his family visits his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

According to the New York Post, the cost and need for security is not new.  President Biden leased a $2,200 per month guest cottage to the SSA next to his home in Delaware, and Obama’s security detail rents private homes and hotel rooms when Obama vacations on Martha’s Vineyard and Hawaii.

Secret service protection costed about $2 million a year for the Coast Guard’s boats when George H.W. Bush visited his Kennebunkport, Maine estate during the term he was president.

The building has reported experienced about a 40 percent decline in sales and rentals of residential units during the past year, and about 15 percent of the space in the building is for rent or for sale.

A real estate broker told the New York Post that an exodus is underway at the once sought-after building. “These are wealthy people.  They don’t need this, and they can’t take it any longer.  They no longer want to stay there,” the broker said.
