Ontario resident Jaclyn McLaren, 36, used to be a middle school teacher, but she’ll soon be spending the next two years in jail instead of a classroom after pleading guilty to sending nude photos and engaging in sexual acts with several boys, ages 13 to 18.
Despite the fact that she had been sending nude photos and performing sex acts on teenage boys going back to 2014, the pedophile teacher wasn’t caught until a male student was using her phone in class and stumbled across the explicit photos. He showed them to his friends, and when McLaren asked him to return her phone, he blackmailed her for more photos.
McLaren, who also goes by the name Jaclyn Jones, admitted in court that she sent photos of her breasts in 2014 to a 13-year-old via Snapchat. She did the same with another boy and later arranged to meet both kids on a local trail. She gave the boys beer before taking them back to her car, where she “fondled and kissed” them before performing oral sex on the minors.
A third student testified that McLaren began sending nude photos of herself to him when he was 15, and when he turned 18, she had sex with him at her home.
A fourth 15-year-old student showed screenshots of McLaren’s nude breasts to police, her face visible in the photos; while a fifth student, who was 16 at the time, was also sent photos. The sixth boy, 15, testified that he received a video of the woman fondling her own breasts. A seventh teen also received photos of McLaren’s breasts, and an eighth victim, 17, received photos and a raunchy video of the teacher in the act.
McLaren was convicted on two counts of sexual exploitation, two counts of luring, one of possession of child pornography, one of making explicit material available to people under 18 and one of making it available to people under 16.
Banned from using social media, the now-registered sex offender will be on probation for two years after her prison sentence and is forbidden to have online contact with anyone under the age of 18. She’s also not allowed to go anywhere near a playground or public places where children are likely to be for ten years after release. The court also ordered her to undergo “sexual treatment” rehabilitation.
Mandy Savery-Whiteway, director of education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, where McLaren used to work, said that the district had been following the case and school officials were aware of her sentencing. “We recognize that this has been a challenging and difficult situation for everyone involved,” she said.
