Sheriff tells Americans why it’s important to have a gun

If you don’t already own a gun, you should probably consider getting one, says Florida Sheriff Grady Judd who advised citizens to protect themselves from a potential attack by learning how to properly shoot a firearm.

“The armed assailant doesn’t plan on you fighting back,” said the Polk County Sheriff in a recent interview with WTVT-TV. “He plans on having a gun, doing all the shooting, and you’re just a sitting duck. Well, the ducks need to shoot back.”

Judd strongly urges good people to obtain concealed carry permits and then keep a gun on them at all times in today’s world, where terrorists have become a common occurrence. He referenced the Orlando shooting from just one year ago, in which a terrorist was able to kill 49 and wound 58 others, because not one of the victims was carrying a gun that night.

“If you’re not afraid of a gun, get one,” said Judd, adding, “And if you need to shoot somebody, shoot ’em a lot.”

Sheriff Judd is not the only law enforcement official urging citizens to start arming themselves in everyday circumstances. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey recently posted a message to Facebook that went viral in which he promoted gun ownership and “targeting terrorists” instead of being a target.

“Terrorists and active shooters are using every weapon available to target citizens: Guns, knives, trucks, hammers, and even explosives,” Ivey said. “Folks, now more than ever is the time for our citizens to be prepared to serve as the first line of defense.”

Judd has stepped up his efforts to protect American children in a first-of-its-kind program to train and deputize school officials.

It is currently illegal to carry a gun on a school campus in Florida, but Judd has implemented his program at Southeastern University, a private Christian liberal arts college in Lakeland, Fla., where he’s teaching the school’s staff members how to operate a firearm.

Once they are deputized, the trained staffers are permitted to use their firearms for self-defense if ever an active shooter situation arises on the campus.
