Sheriff’s Officer Jim Terry, a military veteran, was riding his motorcycle to work Sunday when he was hit by a drunk driver who then fled the scene.
Illegal alien Oscar Salmeron, 42, had already hit another vehicle and failed to stop. As he was fleeing that accident, he then hit Officer Terry on his motorcycle, and again sped away.
Denton Police were able to catch and apprehend him, and he is now being held in the Denton County Jail on a $35,000 bond and multiple charges, including intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. He also has a hold by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Officer Terry is in critical condition in a local hospital, with multiple broken bones and extensive injuries. He has undergone one surgery and is expected to have more surgeries Wednesday and Thursday.
Terry is a veteran, and has been with the sheriff’s department for two years. A GoFundMe account was created for his medical expenses.
