America’s First Lady, Melania Trump, has had an unexpected impact on the nation of her birth.

Melanija Knaves was born in what was then part of communist Yugoslavia, in the village of Novo Mesto. She moved to New York in 1996, started dating Donald Trump in 1998 and the couple married in 2005.

Now, Slovenia has experienced a surge in tourism to their country, since one of their own has become First Lady of the United States.

In March 2017, the number of tourists rose by 8 percent from the previous March.

Tourism to Slovenia from the United States has especially jumped, rising 30.6 percent, while the number of domestic tourists has increased by 22.5 percent, according to NBC News.

Improved economic conditions in the country are also credited for the increase in domestic tourism, analysts say.
