Colleagues of former Newcastle soccer star Cheick Tiote have been mourning his unexpected death on Monday in Twitter posts.
Only 30 years old, Tiote collapsed during a training session in China and was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from a sudden heart attack.
Tiote had moved to the Chinese second division outfit Beijing Enterprises four months ago. Previously, he had played for six-and-a-half-years at St James’ Park.
Former team-member Demba Ba wrote on Twitter, “may Allah gives grant you jannah (paradise) brother Tiote.”

Newcastle goalkeeper Stephen Harper tweeted: “Gutted to hear the awful news about my former teammate Cheik Tiote today. Thoughts with his friends and family.”

A photo of Tiote was posted by Jonas Gutierrez on Instagram who wrote: “Sad news. Always going to be remember our time together at #nufc RIP my friend.”
Tiote signed on to Newcastle for £3.5 million in 2010. He will long be remembered by Newcastle fans as a talented player.
