Major Hillary Clinton influencer/donor and Democratic billionaire businessman George Soros claims he will donate $10 million from his personal foundation to combat a rise in hate crimes. Soros purported that President-Elect Donald Trump is an influencing factor to hate crimes due to his “incendiary rhetoric.”
In interviews with The New York Times and The Hill, Soros said he was “deeply troubled” by the spike in hate crimes since the election, claiming “dark forces … have been awakened” and that “we must do something to push back against what’s happening here.” Soros specifically wants to eliminate crime involving Nazi swastikas and other graffiti spray-painted in public places.
Soros clarifies that his donation is not anti-Trump, but rather is an attempt to curb the rising hate crimes since Trump’s win on Election Day. “Certainly it got inflamed as a result of the campaign, and it broke out really afterwards,” he said. $10 million donation will be donated civil rights organizations, and portions of the donation will be specifically targeted to coming up with ways to stop the rise of violence and how to better track hate crimes.
Since the rise in hate crimes, Trump has vehemently condemned the violent and derogatory acts, claiming these actions have “saddened” him.
