According to Federal Election Commission records, billionaire George Soros’ son gave $33,900 to the Democratic National Committee this year, the maximum amount that can be given to a national party in a calendar year.
Records show that Alexander Soros, who has surpassed his father in political donations to Democratic causes at this point in the current cycle, made his sizable donation on April 28. As Alexander continues to form friendships with Democratic leaders, including Sen. Chuck Schumer (D- NY), Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D- NY), he’s quietly become a major donor to liberal campaigns and causes, including millions during the 2016 election cycle.
By far the most amazing part of last night’s @gordonparksfoundation awards was to be awarded alongside the hero that is #congressman John Lewis. It is hard to think of many-if any-person alive that I could be more honored to share the event with. @repjohnlewis thank you for all you have done and continue to do for this country. 🇺🇸#hero #gordonparks P.S. thank you @usher for coming into town to present the award. Always good catching up bro.
What an experience Saturday evening at the twentieth anniversary gala for the #africanamericanpolicyforum entitled “Say My Name.” It was an honor to give my friend @repkeithellison with the first ever #shirleychisolm award for political leadership. I remember learning about #shirleychisolm during an undergraduate history course and felt a sense of betrayal that, as progressive as my eduction was, I had not learned of her before. #shirleychisolm was both the first African American woman elected to congress and first African American to run for president. I can think of no better person to receive this award then #keithellison, the first #muslim ever elected to federal office and a tireless defender of the rights of Americans of all religions ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations! #sayhername #aapf #trailblazers
During the 2016 election, Alexander gave a political action committee, Senate Majority PAC, $3.5 million between August and November 2016. He also gave $1 million to Priorities USA Action, the largest Democratic super PAC for failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Alexander’s father George was the largest contributor to that PAC, forking out $9.5 million throughout the 2016 cycle.
Reportedly, in 2016 Alexander made the maximum contribution he could to campaigns for Hillary Clinton, former Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI), Schumer, and Ellison.
Also in 2016, Alexander gave several large donations to Democrats, according to a report by The Washington Free Beacon. They list the following contributions:
- $33,400 to the Democratic National Committee
- $33,400 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC)
- $10,000 checks to numerous state Democratic parties including Illinois, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Louisiana, Texas, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
This year, Alexander and his father each donated $2,700 to the campaign committee for Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell (WA), and $1,000 to the campaign committee of failed Georgia Democratic Congressional candidate John Ossoff.
