Sorry, American Grads – Hillary Giving Jobs To Foreign Grads

College Grads 1

Hillary Clinton promises to bring “top talent from around the world” into America, saying she will give green cards to all STEM graduates, allowing them to move into the work force in America upon graduation.

In addition, she will provide “start-up visas” to foreign entrepreneurs so they can build companies in the U.S.

On Monday, June 27, the entire plan was laid out on Clinton’s campaign website, in a “Factsheet” titled, Hillary Clinton’s Initiative on Technology & Innovation

Attract and Retain the Top Talent from Around the World: Our immigration system is plagued by visa backlogs and other barriers that prevent high-skilled workers and entrepreneurs from coming to, staying in, and creating jobs in America. Far too often, we require talented persons from other countries who are trained in U.S. universities to return home, rather than stay in here and continue to contribute to our economy. As part of a comprehensive immigration solution, Hillary would “staple” a green card to STEM masters and PhDs from accredited institutions—enabling international students who complete degrees in these fields to move to green card status.

Hillary will also support “start-up” visas that allow top entrepreneurs from abroad to come to the United States, build companies in technology-oriented globally traded sectors, and create more jobs and opportunities for American workers. Immigrant entrepreneurs would have to obtain a commitment of financial support from U.S. investors before obtaining the visa, and would have to create a certain number of jobs and reach performance benchmarks in order to pursue a green card.

Senator Jeff Sessions was livid over Clinton’s promise, and pointed out the danger of it in a press release Tuesday.

Sessions said, “Young Americans graduating with master’s degrees and PhDs in these fields have sacrificed their time and energy to pursue a career in the STEM field – often at the encouragement of policymakers and national leaders – and oftentimes carry the burden of substantial student loan debt as a result. Further saturating the STEM labor market will limit their ability to obtain high-paying jobs that will allow them to pay down their debt and pursue the occupation of their choosing.”

“Although there are more college graduates in the U.S. today than at any point in our history, many have trouble finding meaningful work in their field of study. Many are underemployed, taking jobs well below their skill level simply to make ends meet. This holds true even for those who earn degrees in the Science, Technology, Education, and Mathematics (‘STEM’) field, with prior estimates indicating that 74 percent of all STEM graduates are not working in the STEM field.

Yet, today, candidate Hillary Clinton announced that if elected president, she would ‘staple’ a green card to STEM master’s degrees and PhDs of every graduate  – enabling foreign students to get green cards and thus be able to remain in the U.S. permanently and take any job. Her plan embodies a concept that has been recycled by industry year after year as ‘immigration reform,’ and would damage the job prospects of U.S. students.”
