President Donald Trump’s border security agenda may already be having an effect on those who are considering crossing the southern border.
The latest border apprehension numbers show a dramatic drop since Trump took office.
According to CNN, the drop may be due to typical January trends in apprehensions, but the report noted that February numbers will make it clear whether or not the drop is due to these trends or due to Trump’s hard stance on immigration.

Customs and Border Protection numbers released to CNN show family unit apprehensions decreased by 42%, unaccompanied minor apprehensions decreased 39%, and total apprehensions decreased by 27%.
The number of apprehensions increased dramatically during Obama’s last three months in office. That trend may have been due to last minute efforts by migrants trying to cross the border illegally before Trump took office.
The final numbers have not been released to the public and may change slightly.
