House Speaker Paul Ryan told reporters that he has full confidence in President Trump, following growing speculation that the president may have had ties with Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election.
“I do,” Ryan told a reporter, after being asked if he had complete confidence in the president.
At the same time, Ryan has said in closed-door meetings that he fully supports the ongoing House and Senate Intelligence panels’ investigations into Russian hacking. He also supports the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s request for a memo written by former FBI Director James Comey. The memo suggests that the president asked Comey to stop his investigation into one of Trump’s associates.
“We should take our oversight responsibilities seriously regardless of who is in power,” Ryan told Republicans, according to a source fro The Hill. “That means before leaping to judgment, we get all the facts. Oversight has requested documents. And we’ll see where the facts lead.”
