On Tuesday, reported that the Obama administration quietly gave the Palestinian Authority $221 million hours before Donald Trump was sworn in as president.   The move went against a hold placed on the money by GOP lawmakers.

The State Department announced late Tuesday that it will review the last-minute funding to ensure it is in accord with President Trump’s agenda.   The review comes on the heels of President Trump taking steps this week to improve relations with Israel — inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to visit Washington DC in February.

Representative Kay Granger (R-TX) is one of the GOP lawmakers who put a hold on the funds.  Granger released a statement Tuesday in which she expressed deep disappointed over Obama’s decision to release the funds.  She called it a defiance of congressional oversight on Obama’s part.  She added: “I worked to make sure that no American taxpayer dollars would fund the Palestinian Authority unless very strict conditions were met. While none of these funds will go to the Palestinian Authority because of those conditions, they will go to programs in the Palestinian territories that were still under review by Congress. The Obama Administration’s decision to release these funds was inappropriate.”
