Statue honoring Trump depicts him as a dog

As an unusual homage to the coming Year of the Dog, a huge statue of a dog that bears more than a passing resemblance to U.S. President Donald Trump has been erected in China.

The 22-foot statue is located outside of Fashion Walk mall in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province in northern China. The dog depicted has golden eyebrows and hair, some of which is flipped up in the front, as well as a red collar and an index finger pointed skyward.

ABC News reported that the statue has attracted attention on social media, but a staff member at the mall said that it was not intended to look like Trump.

Even so, many Chinese media outlets, including the state-run Global Times, referred to the statue as “Trump Zodiac Dog.”

Born in 1946, Trump is a dog under the Chinese zodiac — a trait which he shares with his predecessors George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

According to Chinese astrology, those born in the Year of the Dog are forthright, extremely loyal and possess a strong sense of justice. They also tend to be stubborn, irritable and easily angered.

Fashion Walk posted on social media that the statue was nicknamed “Meng Chuang,” with “Meng” meaning “cute” and “Chuang” pronounced similarly to “Trump” without a “p.”

Last year the mall erected a large rooster that resembled Trump, inspiring numerous replicas, including a giant inflatable one placed near the White House last summer.
