Stephen King’s adaptation of “It” will be hitting theaters next month, with many predicting it is going to set a box office record.
The big-screen version of King’s classic horror novel could potentially make $50 million in its opening three days. This would make it the biggest film ever released in September, overtaking 2015’s “Hotel Transylvania 2,” which made $48 million.
Warner Bros., however, is keeping expectations low. The studio’s own estimate places the movie more in the $40-$45 million range due to September traditionally being a quiet month at the box office, and the film being R-rated. Nevertheless, it appears “It” will draw a big crowd and perform exceptionally for the studio.
The film, which focuses on a group of kids who battle a horrifying monster that eats children and appears as a clown named Pennywise, will be followed by a sequel. The second part of the adaptation will follow the children after they become adults. Last month, director Andres Muschietti confirmed that he would start working on the follow-up film soon.
“It” arrives in theaters on Sep. 8. The movie stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, as well as Finn Wolfhard, Jaeden Lieberher, Sophie Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, and Jeremy Ray Taylor.
Stephen King has been a notable President Trump critic. In January, King said Trump is “emotionally unqualified” to be president. He was highly vocal against Trump for his attack on actress Meryl Streep earlier this year.
See the trailer below:
Trump’s response to Meryl Streep–childish, churlish, petulant–is exactly why most Americans fear his presidency. Emtoionally unqualified.
