The daily White House press briefings with Press Secretary Sean Spicer have been scaled back signficantly and are no longer being held on a routine basis.
The Atlantic noted that the press briefings are now often being held off camera, and audio is often forbidden to be used. The White House has downgraded the briefings to “gaggles.”
CNN’s Jim Acosta complained that Spicer had become “kind of useless,” and accused President Trump of trying to “insultate himself from answering hard questions.”
Spicer is reportedly moving into a different role within the White House but no official confirmation has come on that yet. Laura Ingraham responded Tuesday morning to rumors that she was being considered as a replacement for Spicer.
Recently White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was asked why the press briefings are now often held off-camera, and he reportedly responded coyly in a text message, “Sean got fatter.”
No additional explanation was forthcoming from Bannon.
The White House is keeping them guessing.
Welp, this is one way to respond to questions about the withering of White House briefings…
