A day of chasing Tuesday’s severe West Texas storms came to a tragic end when three storm chasers were killed in a car crash.
Lt. Bryan Witt of the Texas Department of Public Safety told reporters that the accident involved two vehicles.
“One vehicle apparently ran a stop sign at the intersection near the town of Spur, about 55 miles southeast of Lubbock, and collided with a black Jeep that was traveling westbound,” said Witt, noting that one person was in one vehicle and two in the other.
The other car was a Chevrolet Suburban sport utility.
The driver of the Jeep was identified as storm chaser Corbin Lee Jaeger of Peoria, Arizona, according to the report.
At the time of the crash, the National Weather Service said that the area was experiencing heavy rain, and tornadoes had been reported nearby.
