Researchers at Loma Linda University in California found that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day.
After seven years spent analyzing more than 50,000 people over the age of 30, researchers found that making breakfast your biggest meal of the day is key to maintaining a healthier weight.
The data showed that not skipping breakfast and, instead, having a larger meal at the start of the day was associated with a decrease in one’s body mass index (BMI).
The noteworthy decrease was calculated relative to those who made dinner the largest meal of the day.
A large breakfast translates to a person being less likely to snack between meals and sticking to a proper meal plan.
The data also discovered a link between meal timings and a decrease in BMI.
It concluded that proper fasts between meal times, such as five to six hours between breakfast and lunch, and at least eight hours between dinner and the following breakfast, would help decrease BMI.
These findings were published in the Journal of Nutrition.
