Anthony Iavarone, 19, of Clifton Park, NY told reporters on Friday that he had just stopped at a convenience store to put air in his tires last week when the decision to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket changed the course of his life.
He won a $1 million jackpot.
State lottery officials confirmed Iavarone as the winner of the jackpot on a $1 million Cashword scratch-off ticket. He bought the ticket at a Stewart’s Shops store in a town called Ballston and reportedly chose the $10 Cashword scratch-off because his aunt always plays it.
He didn’t believe his good luck at first, so he had his father double-check.
Iavarone will receive a one-time lump sum of $661,800 after taxes.
