Texas Electoral College Member Quits Rather than Vote Trump

A Texas Republican elector, has decided to resign from the Electoral College rather than cast his vote for Donald Trump.

According to the DailymailUK, Art Sisneros, a Republican member of the Electoral College, has announced that he will drop out of the electoral college rather than cast a vote for Donald Trump.

Sisneros penned a lengthy blog post about his decision over the weekend and confirmed to Politico on Monday he was serious about dropping out.

For several months, Sisneros, a Christian, has been weighing whether he could vote for Trump. On the day before Election Day, Sisneros came to the conclusion that he couldn’t do it, citing passages from the Bible about what God expects from the voter, with ‘qualified’ being the trait that swayed his decision.

Sisneros wrote in a statement:  “It seems clear to me that God both calls me to vote and directs me to only vote for men who fear Him and are just according to God’s law. He doesn’t expect or allow me to add to his qualifications and seek for perfection. He also doesn’t hold me accountable for all the sins that these qualified men commit once in office. He does, however, give me clear commands for who is qualified and expects me to be obedient with my calling as a voter.  Therefore, I cannot in good conscience vote for Donald Trump for president.”

Sisneros laid out the history of the Electoral College, calling its current form a “corrupt college,” because the founders did not mean for the electors to be bound to the state-wide popular vote.

Sisneros signed a pledge that would force him to vote for Trump.  “The fact that the pledge makes no mention of the biblical qualifications necessary for one to serve as President makes it an immoral pledge,” he said, stating that the pledge he signed “undermines the Bible and the Constitution.”

Sisneros claimed that to resign is “to honor the intent of the pledge as it relates to the people of my district” because he couldn’t vote in good conscience for Trump. “This will allow the remaining body of Electors to fill my vacancy when they convene on December 19 with someone that can vote for Trump,” he said.  “The people will get their vote. I will sleep well at night knowing I neither gave in to their demands nor caved to my convictions.  I will also mourn the loss of our republic.”
