Police have finally apprehended the man who stole a backpack and wedding ring off of Ricky John Best’s dead body after he was stabbed to death in an altercation on a MAX train in Portland defending two teenage girls from a crazed maniac.
Best was one of three men who intervened when Jeremy Christian, 35, began shouting racial slurs at the two Muslim girls on the train. Myrddin Namkai-Meche, 23, was also killed, and Micah David-Cole Fletcher, 21, is recovering from a stab wound to the neck.
Portland Police released surveillance footage and asked the public for help in finding the culprit, who took advantage of the chaos to steal the victim’s personal affects. Cameras caught him stepping off the train carrying two backpacks. He was apprehended early Friday morning. His identity has not yet been released.
Best, was a 53-year-old Army veteran and father of four.
