The “religion of peace” strikes again. A new video released to Twitter shows a soldier allied with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad forces, being beheaded by ISIS after asking for water. It is uncertain which Syrian rebel group is behind the beheading in the disturbing video. However, it is likely that the culprit is ISIS.
Still, according to BBC, there are numerous opposition groups that could have committed the heinous act: “There are believed to be as many as 1,000 armed opposition groups in Syria, commanding an estimated 100,000 fighters. Many of the groups are small and operate on a local level, but a number have emerged as powerful forces with affiliates across the country or formed alliances with other groups that share a similar agenda.”
While the identity of the victim is also unknown, many suspect the affiliation of the soldier is an Alawite. Alawites believe that all Islamic teachings can be interpreted spiritually and therefore does not have to be taken literally. Thus, this fuels the theory the murderers were of ISIS association.
