A little boy who thinks he’s a firefighter just became one in New York City last Tuesday, May 31.

Even tough firefighters from New York melt when they meet Trucker Dukes, 3 years old, who is battling stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.   Trucker lives in Hawaii with his parents, two brothers and one sister.    His father is a firefighter.  “It’s all he knows,” says his mother.  He thinks he is a real firefighter too.

Trucker was diagnosed with the disease when he was 19 months old, and is receiving cancer treatment in New York City.   He met Captain Jim Grismer when the NY fire department responded to a minor fire call at the Ronald McDonald House, where Trucker his staying.   The FDNY has rallied around the little boy, and decided to make him an honorary firefighter, holding a special swear-in ceremony for him in New York City.
