Tim Kaine claims Trump is jealous of Obama

Former vice-presidential candidate and Senator Tim Kaine (D-Va.) claimed Friday that President Trump is “jealous” of former President Obama’s accomplishments.

“Why did Trump really walk away from #ParisAgreement?” Kaine wrote in a Twitter post. “He’s surrounded by science deniers and fossil fuel junkies.”

“POTUS jealous of Obama accomplishments,” Kaine wrote in another tweet. “But in the end, American innovative spirit is stronger than his insecurities.”

Kaine added that, now that the U.S. will be withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, local governments, private businesses and researchers would have to protect the environment—rather than the federal government.

“U.S. private sector, researchers, cities, towns and states will lead clean energy revolution despite lack of leadership from WH & President,” Kaine tweeted.

The United States’ withdrawal from the agreement makes it one of only three countries in the world that are not committed to the accord.

“We don’t want other leaders and other countries laughing at us anymore, and they won’t be,” Trump said at the White House Rose Garden ceremony where he announced the withdrawal, fulfilling a campaign pledge. “I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris.”

On Thursday, Obama responded to Trump’s decision, claiming that it places the U.S. among “a small handful of nations that reject the future.”

“The nations that remain in the Paris Agreement will be the nations that reap the benefits in jobs and industries created,” Obama said in a statement.

Obama was instrumental in negotiating the 2015 climate change agreement which set self-determined greenhouse gas limits for each signatory nation.

Obama obligated the U.S. to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent to 28 percent by 2025.
